Preparing for the Return to Society
All guests are encouraged to work, attend school or volunteer at a local non-profit of their choice. Our experience shows doing rather than "thinking" is beneficial in early recovery.
Central to the Herb's House plan is for all guests to share two community meals a day, breakfast and dinner. Not only does this teach basic healthy eating habits and help to stabilize the metabolism, it promotes good teamwork. Areas in the kitchen are available for each guest to keep items they choose to purchase separately to meet special dietary needs, personal tastes and snacks.
Herb’s House has a large vegetable garden, orchard, lawn and numerous flower beds for those interested in gardening, learning small-scale landscaping skills or producing and preserving fresh vegetables for the residence and for sale to local restaurants and markets.
Upon request, coaching meetings tailored to residents' needs may cover topics such as budgeting, time management and goal setting.
Herb's House offers no guarantee of employment.
